Digestion and bloating

Digestion…

Modern high starch, low fibre animal diets are responsible for most digestive problems. Our pets simply aren’t designed to process it in such high quantities of starch rich foods. Unfortunately, starch found in maze, soya and wheat etc. are all common food bulking agents because they are cheap and consumers are rarely told that these things are bad for our pets.

As a result of this diet, more and more of our pets are suffering from poor digestion and uncomfortable digestive disorders like bloating.  We have now introduced Potent Brew (a liquid live probiotic) and BioPlus (our dried probiotic) to our DrS range!

Stress…

Did you know that when your pet is stressed, one of the first things that is effected is the gut? This is because the body’s natural response to fear or threats is to prioritise the blood for the “fight or flight” organs - the muscles, brain, heart and lungs.

When the gut is starved of blood due to this long-term stress, a number of things happen:

  • The actidity level is affected. This leads to a risk of ulcers, reflux and other disorders.
  • The beneficial balance die and the bad bacteria flourish.
  • The animal gets diarrhoes and loses water, electro lights and other water soluble minerals.

So, if your pet is stressed, we would recommend feeding Fight Back (for big pets) or Guardian Angel (for the small and furries) to treat the stress but ALSO Potent Brew or BioPlus to address the gut. This way your pets will feel so much better and they are far less likely to become ill.  These products will help your pets regulate their energy also and our probiotics have been known to considerably help and encourage the desire to breed.

Bloating...

Bloat is a very serious health risk for our pets, yet many owners know very little about it, however, it is one of the biggest killers. It is frequently reported that deep-chested dogs, such as German Shepherds, Great Danes, and Dobermans are particularly at risk but the condition also affects other species such as cats and rabbits.

Bloating of the stomach is often related to swallowed air; however, bloat can often be caused when there is a build-up of protein in the gut which causes foam. As a result of bacterial imbalances in the gut, protein foam expands further and further as it cannot simply be burped or farted out. Therefore, the gut expands painfully and in extreme cases, can lead to death.  DrS have come up with the ultimate probiotic supplements that neutralises and breaks down the protein foams and rebalances the flora in the gut. Potent Brew’s fast action will have your pet feeling better in no time. Interestingly, stress can be a significant causing factor of bloat so make sure your pets are stress free by topping up their calcium levels. We do two of the industry’s leading calcium supplements, for small and furries use Calcivet and for cats and dogs, use Cool, Calm & Collected.
